If you're looking to avoid refined sugar over the holiday season, you've definitely got your work cut out for you. It seems like everywhere we turn there is some new sweet or savory treat calling our name—cookies, pies, breads—and almost all of them are packed with white sugar.

Instead of waving the white flag and giving up on our dietary values for the season, we like to do things a little differently here at the hive. We sweeten our holiday treats lightly and naturally—just a touch of hive superfood sweetness here and there. And to be honest, our dishes taste so much better for it.

Want to join in on the cleaner festive eating without feeling deprived? Here are 3 of our fave holiday recipes from the hive—so you can enjoy all the flavors and indulgences the holiday season has to offer, without the highly processed guilt. Enjoy!

ROASTED BALSAMIC HONEY BRUSSELS

gluten-free, paleo, vegetarian, dairy-free {serves 3-4}

The best way to describe this dish? Vegetable candy. Perfectly crisp, salty, and lightly sweet—no Brussels sprout in history has ever tasted this good. Who needs a main dish anyway? Bring on the greens!

ingredients

1 1⁄2 lbs Brussels sprouts

3 Tbsp olive oil

2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 Tbsp Raw Wildflower Honey

Pomegranate seeds

Salt and pepper, to taste

* Optional toppings: toasted walnuts, bacon, coconut bacon

directions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and whisk the honey and balsamic vinegar together in a small bowl.
2. Rinse Brussels sprouts. Remove any brown leaves. Pat dry.
3. Cut the Brussels in half and toss in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread out, cut-side down, on a baking tray. Roast for 20 minutes.
4. Remove the tray from the oven. Pour the honey-balsamic mixture on the greens and gently toss them together to coat evenly. Return the tray into the oven and roast for 10 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
5. Serve with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds and additional toppings as desired. Enjoy!
